Celebrating its 10th Anniversary: The MacRo Report Blog

Black holes may seem to be forever, and now we can actually see one!!

It is April 10, 2019…destined for the shortlist of iconic images, the first ever photo image of a black hole in outer space reveals that, as expected, there is nothing there!

It was April 22, 2009…destined for the shortlist of the first ever web source of local commercial real estate news, and political thought, the inaugural post of the MacRo Report Blog hits the world wide web and asks:

  1. Where on the web can one find commercial real estate news and opinions for Frederick County?
  2. Does all the information just disappear into the black hole, or is there just a void?

Yes, this month marks the tenth anniversary of the first posting of 637 original blog posts (some 500,000 words) from MacRo, Ltd.

At that time, no matter what search engine one used, and no matter what combination of keywords were typed in, there were no websites dedicated to Mid-Maryland or Frederick County CRE news.

It did seem like all the information that was to be shared on the web, somehow must have been swallowed in a black hole.  But it was our conclusion that, in fact, it was a void … it just wasn’t happening.

Today, things are much different.  Just search Google with the key words, “Frederick County Maryland land and commercial real estate news blog.”

What happened?

A decade ago, in what was truly the depth of what is now known as the Great Recession, the commercial real estate brokerage business was going through a culling cycle.  Agents and brokers were closing up shop and seeking other employment opportunities.  Property owners and landlords couldn’t believe how quickly market conditions shifted from high demand to high supply causing values to plummet within a very short period of time.  It was truly a time of seismic economic shifts.

Within the halls of MacRo, Ltd., our business model was forced to adapt.  For many of our clients, their level of motivations to buy, sell and lease were strongly tested.  More than a few believed that what they were experiencing was nothing more than a brief economic dip.   So, while the earth was shifting under our feet, rather than waiting the market out, our team turned up the heat and went to work.  In my spare time, the search was on…surfing the web, reading and making calls to seek out where the next opportunity was for CRE brokerage.

Surprisingly, it seemed that the web was where it was at! … or wasn’t!

Many industries were taking advantage of the many wonders of doing business via internet, but it seemed that CRE was way behind the curve.  For Frederick County, we identified that as the opportunity.  It wasn’t long before we discovered a concept called Inbound Marketing.

From there, we were on our way to rebuilding our web presence using the concept of email marketing, social media and blogging … and breaking new ground in land and commercial real estate marketing in Frederick and Mid-Maryland.

It’s been a great ride and a tremendous commitment of time and energy.

To our many readers, followers, contributors, customers and clients, we thank you for your many years of support, as we continue to fill the web with good local CRE content!

Stay tuned as we press on into our next decade.
